How we make money
The short version
This site is free to read and has no ads. It may earn a small commission when you buy something through a link we mark as a sponsored link. These are the four promises that go with that.
Four promises
- Affiliate links are disclosed. Some links on this site may be affiliate links, marked sponsored. If you buy through one we may earn a commission at no cost to you. The details are on the About page.
- No ads. No advertising networks, no tracking pixels sold to advertisers, no pop-ups.
- Safety information is never gated or sold. Every checklist row, every source link and every warning stays free to read and print. Nothing that could matter in a flood, storm or power cut sits behind a signup or a payment.
- A commission never changes the advice. A product appears only if an official source says the kind of item is useful. We do not add, remove or reorder advice because of what pays.
The optional winter pack
We may later offer a paid household winter pack: printable extras for people who want them all in one place. It is optional, and nothing in it replaces the free information above. We will not build it until at least 300 people have joined the email list, because until then there is nobody to sell to. The planned launch price is £7 (about $9) as a single payment, with no subscription and no trial.
When we get something wrong
Every page shows a "Last reviewed" date, and we change that date only after checking the page against its official sources again. If a fact is wrong, tell us on the Corrections page. We fix it and list the change there with its date.
